The Mosaic Youth Panel is designed to ensure that we listen to young people’s opinions as we shape Mosaic’s programmes and activities.
The Mosaic Youth Panel was established in Autumn 2014. Panellists are aged between 14 and 17 and are currently involved in a Mosaic mentoring programme, or have recently been part of one.
We conducted an application process for Panellists, asking schools in which Mosaic programmes run to nominate a student who would make an outstanding Panellist. We had an excellent response and convened the successful Panellists for their first meeting, in London, in December 2014.
At this meeting the Panellists discussed various matters, including their experiences of Mosaic mentoring and their recommendations of what they’d like Mosaic to offer young people in the future. The Youth Panel presented these ideas to the full Mosaic Advisory Board meeting, which took place that same day.
The Youth Panel met again in April 2015, this time to give their ideas on the recently-launched research programme into the impact of Mosaic mentoring, as well as to advise on Mosaic projects in the pipeline, such as the potential to offer mentoring to university students. The Panel will next convene in the 2015/16 academic year.
We are hugely grateful to the time and energy that this year’s Youth Panellists have offered to Mosaic, and for the support of their teachers and schools.
We will be inviting nominations for new Youth Panellists in September 2015.
