
The Mosaic International Summit 2011
The Mosaic International Summit took place in Qatar from 15th - 24th November. The Summit offered young leaders the opportunity to take part in an exciting leadership development programme. The 2011 Summit built upon the programmes of previous years, and included world class speakers, leadership workshops providing an opportunity for delegates to become part of a vibrant international network of young leaders committed to positive change. Delegates from Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia (resident in Kenya) Turkey UAE and UK took part.
The Summit's aims for delegates were:
1) to develop leadership ability and an aspiration to be an agent of change
2) to develop understanding of key global issues and inspire positive thinking to address them
A critical part of the leadership programme followed the Summit, where particpants were supported in their leadership journey by Mosaic. Participants will report back on their development and community work every 3 months for a year following the Summit and take an active part in Mosaic's international network.

Programme and presentations
Day 1: 15 November 2011
Dr Saif Ali Al-Hajari, Vice Chairperson Qatar Foundation welcomed the delegates to Qatar.
Ambassador John Hawkins gave some regional context for the Gulf.
Stephen Howard, CEO of Business in the Community spoke about the role of personal leadership in business and gave some insights into his own leadership journey.
Prof Binna Kandola OBE and Stuart Duff from Pearn Kandola lead a workshop that encouraged delegates to define their model of leadership.
Robert Swan OBE spoke about his inspirational journey of becoming the first man to walk to both poles and how it inspired his personal campaign to fight climate change

Day 2: 16 November 2011

Day 3: 17 November 2011
Binna Kandola and Stuart Duff spoke to the delegates about the role of emotional resilience in being a strong leader.

Simon Winetroube, Country Director, British Council; Aysha Al Mudehki and Professor Binna Kandola took part in a panel discussion on bringing communities together at Katara Cultural Village.

Day 4: 18 November 2011

Day 5: 19 November 2011
Binna Kandola and Stuart Duff spoke to the delegates about developing skills of influence and persuasion. This was followed by a workshop on development planning and setting goals.
Will Day gave a powerful address about the current state of the world and the urgent issues we need to act on to sustain the planet.

Day 6: 20 November 2011
Delegates visited local projects and businesses demonstrating leadership in action. These included Mada Centre for Assistive Technology, Williams F1, Qatar Shell Technology and Research Centre and Four Seasons Hotel.
Day 7: 21 November 2011
Delegates visited local projects and businesses demonstrating leadership in action. These included Qatar Foundation, Credit Suisse, Aspire for Sport, Qatar Financial Centre Judiciary, Al Jazeera, British Council, Grand Hyatt Hotel and Doha Youth Centre.
Day 8: 22 November 2011
Delegates presented on what they had learnt on their project visits.
Day 9: 23 November 2011
Delegates visited Vodafone to see their Al Johara project which empowers Qatari women to pursue careers whilst adhering to traditional cultural values.

Closing Celebration in the presence of HRH Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
