The Mosaic Media Network brings together media professionals with the aim of inspiring young Muslims to consider the media as a profession, to support local communities in promoting more positive news stories and to provide networking opportunities for those already working within the media industry.
Aim
The overarching aim of this programme is to empower Muslim communities to interact in a positive way with the media by promoting the involvement and inclusion of Muslims with the different media that make up the industry.
The network will deliver its programmes in various ways, such as workshops with media production companies, World of Work days with some of the UK's largest and most influential media organisations, lectures, and mentoring with British media professionals.
Objectives
The Network's objectives are:
- To harness the power of the media so as to inspire, promote positive Muslim role models, and provide mentoring activities through overlapping work with Mosaic's other programmes such as the Mosaic Mentoring and Mosaic Speaker's Bureau. This collaborative working between the various Mosaic Projects will offer opportunities to gain experience and encourage an interest and possible career in the media, thereby increasing Muslim representation within the media.
- To form partnerships and associations with organisations and other like-minded groups in order to provide events and projects to assist in promoting and attracting youth to the media industries.
- To provide a platform for media professionals to network, develop partnerships, exchange ideas, and consider opportunities for development within the industry.
Joining the Media Network
The network is chaired by Aaqil Ahmed, Head of Religion at the BBC, and includes both Muslim and non-Muslim individuals drawn from the full range of media profession.
