Leicester Mentoring with Prince's Trust
Mosaic has partnered up with the Prince's Trust to carry out mentoring at schools in the Leicester area. Volunteer mentors have already begun visiting MOAT Community College, and March will see the first mentors heading to Madani High School.
MOAT Community College - 1:1 and group mentoring with year 9 students, offering guidance on careers, education opportunities and general professional development
Madani High School - 1:1 or group mentoring with young people will be flexible and dependent upon the needs of the individuals involved.
List 99 checks are required for all volunteer mentors (to be carried out by the school or Mosaic), and in some instances a CRB check will be requested.

Prince's Trust Programmes
Mosaic has partnered up with the Prince's Trust who will be providing 2 opportunities to volunteer as a mentor. Volunteers can become mentors with the The Princes Trust on two programme areas.
1. The Business Programme
This programme offers start up support, business planning, awareness seminars, 1:1 support with advisors, some start up funding and post start support (business mentoring) to young people 18-30 who are unemployed or under-employed. They must have a business idea that shows signs of becoming a sustainable business.
There are more than one million young people in the UK not in education, employment, or training. The Prince's Trust focuses its efforts on those people who need your help the most.
2. Progression Mentor Programme
An extension of the existing business mentoring scheme as described above, this initiative focuses on those young people that took part in the Business Programme but did not proceed to starting a business. Progression mentors will be matched and meet with clients for 3-6 months, helping them to progress towards education, employment or training.
Mentoring opportunities
In your role as mentors, you will provide support in the post start up stage. No matter how much business planning is done, the young people are under prepared for (a) how much responsibility they are taking on, (b) how much time is taken up by bookkeeping and other back office duties, and (c) the need for marketing to ensure a steady stream of customers. Your role as business mentors will be to guide the young people through and support the development of both them and their respective businesses.
Commitment
Once "paired", the mentor enters into a Business/Client Mentor Agreement. The commitment is for one meeting a month for the 1st year, once a quarter for the 2nd year and 3rd year by arrangement between the mentor/mentee. However these are minimums and can be more frequent depending on need and time available. They can also be supplemented by phone or email contact.
Training details
All mentors for this role are recruited and trained in the same way. The Princes Trust will take up 2 personal references and hold an informal interview. Mentors then attend 2 days of training, which includes an induction to the Prince's Trust, background information on the clients they support and the issues they face, a detailed look at coaching/mentoring techniques and role-specific information. All mentors receive ongoing support from Trust staff and locally-based volunteer co-ordinators.
CRB Checks
CRB checks are required if the mentee is under the age of 18 years and these will be organised as soon as possible.
