Mosaic's activities within Yorkshire have been running since 2007. Mosaic mentoring was first piloted at Bradford's Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College, in the heart of one of the UK's most deprived postcodes. Having achieved positive impacts, Mosaic Yorkshire is now proud to be able to offer the Mosaic package to schools and other organisations throughout the region.
Tariq Shah of the Vigo Group chairs the Mosaic Yorkshire Leadership Group, and is not only an asset to the network with his contacts and influence within the community but is also a keen mentor!
Mosaic Mentoring in Yorkshire & Humber matches volunteer mentors with young Muslims and others aged between 9 - 25 years old at schools and via community groups based in some of our more deprived areas within our towns and cities. While most mentors are Muslim and operate in areas of high Muslim population, all young people can participate in benefiting from the programme regardless of their faith background and we welcome non-Muslim mentors.
We aim to motivate young people in their school work and exams, inspire them to consider in more detail what their options are, show them that these options are far greater than they might realise, and give practical insights into how others have made a success of their lives.
