Media Network at Work

Hear from one of the participants from the Channel 4 broadcasting day:

"The session on Skins was a rare chance to hear how a successful campaign and series was put together from so many angles including the director, commissioner, and legal and marketing guys. I saw how important Skins was to the E4 brand because of its appeal to the advertiser's dream audience of 16-24 year olds, and why they had to do so much marketing online to grab that audience's attention. It was good to hear about the non-traditional advertising tactics and legal issues. I didn't know about the competition to win tickets for the Skins launch parties around the UK - I guess because I'm a few years past that age bracket now!

The creative brainstorming talk suggested useful tools like starting brainstorms with ideas generation first (dumping as many wild ideas as possible before you start evaluating them), and brainstorming in locations outside of the office for a change. I know from experience that all that stuff works, I just hope more people in senior positions are convinced to at least try it and that this way of working eventually becomes normal in TV.

After a good brainstorming session, I got the chance to pitch my group's idea to Andrew Mackenzie, Head of Factual Entertainment. Practice doesn't get any more real than that and it was a good experience, especially hearing his feedback. I enjoyed meeting and working with people in news, radio and different areas of media and look forward to taking part in more MOSAIC training days and events in the future."
