Thanks to the generosity of our Founder, HRH The Prince of Wales, 200 young people participating in Mosaic programmes received the opportunity of a lifetime – to attend the Diamond Jubilee Concert along with their mentors over the Jubilee weekend.
The 200 schoolchildren and 100 mentors, who travelled from all over the country to attend, witnessed live performances by an array of musical legends including Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Annie Lennox and Jessie J.
The amazing experience was a special reward for the young people, celebrating their achievements over the year – and it also sent an important message about their inclusion in such an important national celebration.
It also enabled us to thank our fantastic volunteer mentors for their support of our important work. Mosaic mentors give up their free time to act as positive role models for young people, mentoring them, encouraging them, building their confidence levels and inspiring them to reach their goals. Nabeela Malik, aged 15, said afterwards: “I have no words to describe the overwhelming feeling I still have. It was fun, exciting and a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Nusrat Sadiq, a Mosaic mentor and teacher, described it as “a wonderful remarkable evening spent with young girls who are remarkable in their own right. This evening has become one of my best ever evenings of my life. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever contemplate being part of such a prestigious event. Thank you Mosaic.”
Ilham Abdo, aged 15, wrote afterwards to say, “I think it was a great experience for me which I am never likely to experience or witness again in my life time. It felt really amazing. It was great to actually see it with my bare eyes. I would love to do it again but know it will never happen again for me to witness but I do know this memory will stay with for life. Mosaic we LOVE U!!!”
The Head Teacher of Washwood Heath Technology College in Birmingham explains what the day meant to him and her students: “What an amazing experience, even with all the queuing! To have the opportunity to be a part of a ‘once in a lifetime experience’ was brilliant. The whole experience of travelling to and across London was both fun and challenging (the tube especially). The concert was brilliant even though the students were not sure who Cliff Richard etc were! To have been so close to Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Charles was awesome. What a privilege! All of the students and staff had a fantastic time and it is a life’s experience the not one of us will ever forget. We all felt proud to be a part of these truly spectacular celebrations.”
