Mosaic is delighted to announce the appointments of Zulfi Hussain MBE and Sarah Khan-Bashir as the new Co-Chairmen of the Mosaic Yorkshire Regional Leadership Group.
Tariq Shah, the founder Regional Chairman, is standing down to enable him to focus on his role as a member of the Mosaic’s national Advisory Board but will remain strongly engaged in the region’s activities.
HRH Princess Badiya, Chairman of Mosaic, said “It is great news that Zulfi Hussain and Sarah Khan-Bashir have accepted the invitation to become Co-Chairmen of Mosaic Yorkshire. Their skills and experience and their respected status within Yorkshire and beyond mean they are natural choices as Co-Chairs. Given Sarah’s long-standing commitment as a Mosaic mentor in Bradford and Zulfi’s track record of support for young people, I am confident that they will provide strong, committed leadership to continue and develop Mosaic’s important work in the region. “
HRH Princess Badiya also said “I wish to pay particular tribute to Tariq Shah as the founder Chairman of Mosaic Yorkshire. Tariq has supported Mosaic since its inception and his excellent leadership within Yorkshire has been key to the success and development of Mosaic’s work in the region. Tariq is a valuable member of the national Mosaic Board and I am delighted that he will remain actively engaged in the Board’s work as we move forward.”
Zulfi Hussain is a charismatic and passionate international speaker and ‘hands on’ practitioner in the areas of social enterprise, entrepreneurship and coaching and mentoring. He is one of Yorkshire and Humber’s best known and most respected entrepreneurs and has been recognised as one of the top 100 most influential people in the region. He has worked with many organisations such as BT, ITV, Leeds Ahead, National Grid, and the NHS and he energises audiences by combining his own life experiences with expert knowledge. Zulfi has received many awards for his personal and professional achievements including:
• Honorary Doctorate from the University of Bradford 2010
• MBE – Services to Businesses and Services to Charity 2008
• IAB – Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2007
• IOD – Director of the Year 2007
• CVS – Volunteer of the Year 2007
Sarah Khan-Bashir is a proactive, adaptable and conscientious solicitor, highly committed to putting something back into the community. Sarah established Shire Solicitors in 2007. The practice specialises in Defendant and Claimant civil litigation as well as commercial and residential conveyancing. After qualifying as a solicitor, Sarah joined the Office of the Force Solicitor for West Yorkshire Police for seven years. One of the many initiatives she was involved with was the creation of a protocol to be followed by the courts and partner authorities in order to case manage civil applications brought by the police to the magistrates’ courts. This model has been adopted by several police forces. Sarah also assisted the National Criminal Intelligence Service delivering cultural awareness programmes to police officers nationwide and has delivered legal training to the British Army. She is an associate with Pacalis Associates Ltd; Pacalis is a UK-based international company offering consultancy, bespoke training and development programmes across a range of key business areas. In addition to delivering training covering a range of issues, Sarah was most recently involved with providing specific training in relation to the Muslim communities in West Yorkshire. As Patron of the Minorities Police Liaison Committee in West Yorkshire, she acted as Chairwoman of a sub group of the committee looking specifically at the issue of Forced Marriages. The group organised a city wide conference to specifically identify the concerns surrounding this often emotive subject. Sarah is also regularly involved in radio programs looking at a wide range of subjects that touch the British Asian community. Sarah was recently nominated for a Lloyds TSB Jewel award and was one of the finalists for the Professional Excellence Award. She sits as a governor at Cottingley Primary School in Bradford and is a trustee on the Board of the Bradford Youth Development Partnership. Sarah is also a member of the Bradford South Independent Advisory Group for West Yorkshire Police. Sarah joined Mosaic in 2007 as a mentor and went on to chair the Mosaic Bradford Local Delivery Group and has been Vice-Chairman of the Mosaic Yorkshire Regional Leadership Group since 2011.
