Lawyer, peer and Mosaic supporter Baroness Patricia Scotland has become the first UK citizen to be serve as secretary general of the Commonwealth in its 66 year history. She is also the first woman to hold this post and her successful election was announced at the recent summit of the 53 Commonwealth leaders in Malta.
Baroness Scotland heard first-hand the positive effects of Mosaic’s work in UK schools when she joined us for a “Seeing is Believing” event at which she talked to pupils from Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Secondary School and Thomas Buxton Primary School, both in London. The pupils talked to the Baroness about the challenges facing young people, especially young girls, in modern Britain.
We welcome the Baroness’ appointment and we’re certain that she’ll bring her characteristic integrity, determination and passion to this prestigious role.
