Young girls from five London primary schools recently celebrated successful completion of Mosaic’s primary school mentoring programme at prestigious graduation ceremonies, held at the offices of international law firm Norton Rose Fulbright LLP.
The events saw pupils from Barham Primary School, Elsley Primary School, Thomas Buxton Primary School, Uphall Primary School and Islamia Primary School congratulated on their successes by keynote speakers Shami Chakrabarti CBE (Director of Liberty, the British civil liberties advocacy organisation) and Jenny Garrett (author of ‘Rocking Your Role’).
Shami, Jenny and the audience of business leaders, mentors, teachers and parents then heard direct from pupils about their positive experiences from the programme, which aims to raise aspirations among young girls through female mentors from professional backgrounds acting as role models.
Shami Chakrabarti CBE said: “I was so pleased to attend this special event and hear first-hand from pupils about how they have built their confidence and started to map out career paths thanks to Mosaic’s fantastic mentoring programme. I wish all the pupils the very best for the future and would encourage more women from the business community to give up their time to help mentor so even more schools can benefit.”
Jenny Garrett said: “Empowering women is one of my biggest passions and so to be invited to speak at such a special events such as this was a real privilege. The progress made by pupils at these schools is so inspiring and just goes to show how important it is that we continue to encourage young girls in our schools to dream big and believe that anything is possible.”
Robyn Brown, Mosaic’s London & South East Regional Manager, added: “Shami and Jenny are both inspirational role models and we are extremely grateful that they came to give insights into their personal and professional lives to all of the pupils. With role models like them and our team of wonderful mentors, we hope to continue to inspire and empower even more young girls in 2016.”
Mosaic would like to thank our partners the Aziz Foundation, the TRS Foundation, the John Laing Charitable Trust and the players of the People’s Postcode Lottery for their generous support of the primary school mentoring programme.
