Mosaic mentors, teachers and pupils joined together to celebrate their achievements and participation in Mosaic’s programmes at the London Mid-Year Celebration event.
Held last week, the celebratory event took place at AXA’s offices in the City of London and honoured Mosaic’s mentors hard work, commitment and support of young people, as well as recognizing the time and effort put-in by the teachers.
Alice Liddie, a mentor at Westminster Academy, talked about her experience: “I really enjoyed participating in the Mosaic mentoring programme and I hope that people will continue to recognise the value of these programmes and the importance of investing in young people.
“During my time as a mentor we aimed to encourage the mentees to be ambitious and recognise their own strengths and to help them develop the confidence to demonstrate those strengths in interviews and real life situations.
“It is this self-belief that I feel gives people an edge over the tough competition that is out there in the real world. Sometimes, just hearing about others’ experiences first-hand can make opportunities or goals seem more achievable and help raise aspirations.”
Other speakers at the event included Abdin Ahmed, Mosaic Mentor of the Year in 2014 and pupils Uliks Sekiraga and Taunita Sylejmani from Westminster Academy in London. The teacher of the students, Patrick Farmborough, gave a wonderful account of why mentoring had been so important and impactful for them.
Anu Atewologun, London and South East Regional Manager, said: “We had a wonderful evening at AXA, meeting likeminded people and listening to their experiences of mentoring. It is always extra special hearing from the people that we do this for, especially when Uliks told the room that without our mentoring he would not have had the confidence to speak. It makes it all worthwhile!”
