Mosaic has announced its West Midlands Mentor of the Year during its annual end of year event celebrating another hugely successful twelve months of work in the region.
Shakil Butt, until recently Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development at Islamic Relief Worldwide has been a mentor at Mosaic since 2008 and is a member of the West Midlands Regional Leadership Group.
The special event was held at the West Midlands Fire Service in Birmingham and featured a keynote speech from entrepreneur and social enterprise advocate Daniella Genas.
Attending the event were mentors and mentees from across Mosaic’s programmes who had the chance to meet with many from Mosaic’s leadership team and several of its benefactors.
There was also a special performance delivered by members of ‘The Company’ band from Washwood Heath Academy in Birmingham.
Winning mentor Shakil said: “This award means a lot to me knowing what great work goes on in the West Midlands and to then be chosen out of those amazing people is very humbling. Mentoring is its own reward working alongside this great group who all bring their talents and energy as volunteers to inspire the next generation.
“Mosaic provides me a platform to give back and sometimes giving a nudge to a young person can send them in a completely different direction. Being part of Mosaic since 2008 has been a wonderful journey to date, one that brings me purpose and a sense of fulfilment.”
Daniella Genas said: “Congratulations to the winners and to Mosaic for doing such fantastic and well needed work. Everyone should support organisations such as Mosaic for the sake of the future generations.”
Yvonne Palmer, a member of the Mosaic West Midlands Team said: “The West Midlands has seen some fantastic work over the past year and I would like to thank the hard work and dedication of the mentors for making it all possible. It’s no wonder so many young people in the region are inspired by them!”
Mosaic runs many programmes across the West Midlands, namely its Primary School and Secondary School programmes as well as the Enterprise Challenge competition.
