Mosaic is working in partnership with expert research body, NatCen Social Research (NatCen) to embark on a ground-breaking five-year study of the impact of Mosaic’s programmes.
From September 2014, all students participating in the Secondary Group Mentoring Programme only, will be asked to complete an anonymous online questionnaire to identify their ‘starting point’ before mentoring begins.
NatCen will ask each student to complete this questionnaire every year for the next five years, to identify their progress, and the outcomes of the mentoring process, compared to a control group.
As part of the study they will link students’ answers to information held on the National Pupil Database (NPD), a longitudinal database managed by the Department for Education (DfE).
The NPD holds information at individual pupil-level about children’s education at different stages, including test and exam results for all children in the state sector in England, as well as non-maintained special schools, sixth form and Further Education (FE) colleges and (where available) independent schools.
The NPD holds information about pupils such as age, gender, ethnicity, attendance and exclusions, special educational needs, free school meal entitlement and educational attainment.
