We are currently recruiting mentors to support our programme in London, the South East and Yorkshire.
Our offender mentoring programme supports Muslim men and women who are leaving custody and helps them to settle back into their communities.
We are looking for men and women aged 21 and over who can commit to the programme for 12 months and are willing to meet their mentee whilst they are still in custody and then in the community. Mentors should be able to meet their mentees at least once a month.
Potential mentors will need to attend a full weekend of training and a further half day induction with the prison they are matched with. Additionally, all volunteers are required to undertake a full enhanced security clearance before beginning the programme. Please note that the process of becoming a mentor can take up to four months in some instances. Some aspects of the process can only be completed on weekdays and flexibility around your working commitments is required. The opportunities to support our programmes are as follows:
London and the South East
In London and the South East, there are opportunities to mentor at the following prisons:
HMP Wormwood Scrubs
HMP The Mount (Hemel Hempstead)
HMP & YOI Rochester (Kent)
Training for London and the South East will be on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th March at a central London location. Please note that attendance is required on both days. There are limited places available at each establishment and allocation will be on a first come basis.
Opportunities in Yorkshire will be at:
HMP New Hall (women only)
Training will take place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th March in Bradford. Attendance is required on both days. Places are allocated on a first come basis
Given the nature of this programme, attendance at training is not a guarantee of a place on the programme. The training is used to impart information as well as to assess suitability of applicants.
