Mosaic’s work in the UK was recognised recently at the prestigious Muslim News Awards for Excellence 2016, with four wins in three categories.
Mosaic’s Managing Director Jonathan Freeman won the Annemarie Schimmel Award for Championing a Muslim Cause.
Jonathan has led Mosaic since 2011 after first joining the charity during its very early days in 2009. Universally respected, he has overseen Mosaic’s growth from a small idea to an organisation that runs a wide range of programmes both in the UK and overseas.
The Ummul Mu’minin Khadijah Award for Excellence in Enterprise was shared by Mosaic Board Member, Farouk Sheikh and Tariq Usmani, Chairman of Mosaic’s Ex-Offender Guidance Panel. Farouk is Chair of CareTech Holdings PLC and Tariq is CEO of Henley Homes plc.
Finally, Mosaic Board Member Harris Bokhari OBE won the Alija Izetbegovic Award for Good Citizenship. Harris is the founder of Naz Legacy Foundation.
Jonathan commented: “I’m pleased to have won this prestigious award but I must share it with the wonderful team of staff, mentors and volunteers, without whom Mosaic would simply not exist. Their tireless work and unwavering belief in the importance of what we do has led to our most successful year ever for the charity. I truly stand on the shoulders of giants.”
“I am likewise very pleased for Farouk, Tariq and Harris who form part of a diverse range of talented people who work so hard to ensure Mosaic continues to deliver on its founding principle of inspiring young people from deprived communities to realise their talents and potential.”
