girls and their mothers from three schools in Yorkshire, Eastwood Primary School, Frizinghall Primary School and Victoria Primary School had an opportunity to celebrate their achievements at an exciting graduation event held at Leeds Trinity University.
The ceremony, kindly hosted by the University, marked the end of a nine week Mosaic Primary School Mentoring Programme for the girls and their mothers and gave them an opportunity to share their experiences of the programme with their mentors and teachers as well as receive a special certificate presented to them by Mosaic.
They also had an opportunity to hear from Adiba Rashid, an inspirational speaker and successful freelance buyer who shared her own experiences about the challenges she faced in becoming a buyer having started out as a secretary.
“Today was incredible and each year it seems to get better, the mum’s loved it and the girls have had a great day.”
The programme, which was led by Mosaic mentors in each school, helped the girls and their mothers to raise their aspirations and build their confidence. They explored different role models, the value of good communications, the importance of education and career choices as well as getting involved in the community.
Commenting on the graduation ceremony Sarah Mahmood, a teacher from Victoria Primary School said:
“Today was incredible and each year it seems to get better, the mum’s loved it and the girls have had a great day.”
One of the mothers taking part in the programme with her daughter who attends Eastwood Primary School said:
“I didn’t even realise this university existed and it’s been a really good experience for us to see first-hand what our daughters can aspire to, thank you for the amazing opportunity.”
Donna Dykes, a teacher from Frizinghall Primary School said about the programme:
“The programme has been fantastic and enjoyable, we’re definitely looking to increase our numbers of mum’s and daughters to deliver it to next year, it’s been insightful.”
Mosaic would like to thank Lucy Rice, Senior Schools and Colleges Liaison Officer and Leeds Trinity University for their very kind support and hosting the Yorkshire graduation event.
