This week Mr Shabir Nawab, Chair of the West Midlands Regional Leadership Group and Managing Director of Shabir Nawab & Co Accountants, hosted the West Midlands annual Mentor Thank You Dinner, attended by over 70 guests.
The evening’s proceedings commenced with a detailed account of the successes the region has achieved during the 2011-2012 academic year.
With the support and commitment of Mosaic’s mentors, 342 young people – primary school girls, their mums and secondary aged pupils across 16 schools in Birmingham and Wolverhampton – have benefitted from the Mosaic programme.
First-hand accounts from mentors
Ms Kulsum Patel, Enterprise Challenge and Lead Mentor at Waverley School, gave a powerful insight into her own mentoring experience and how the students have benefited from Mosaic support.
Ms Nusrat Sadiq, a mentor at Adderley and Ward End Primary School, spoke about the benefits that she has witnessed first-hand whilst mentoring on the Mosaic Futures programme. Describing her role as Mosaic Link Teacher at Washwood Heath Secondary School where she works, she gave an overview of how year 7 students’ confidence and self-esteem has increased as a direct result of them engaging in the programme.
Thank you
The success of our work depends on the mentoring support made available by individuals and businesses. Our mentors bring their skills, attributes, commitment and a desire to help in the educational and personal development of children and young people – and they make a lasting impact on their lives.
More volunteers needed to help more children and young people
In the next academic year we aim to support 790 participants, and to do this we need over 150 mentors to support and deliver our programmes across the West Midlands.
- Could you help by volunteering as a mentor?
- Could your organisation provide a group of mentors, perhaps supporting a whole school? We are happy to arrange on-site training for your team.
- Do you know a school that would benefit from our programmes?
