Mosaic is delighted to announce that HRH The Prince of Wales, Mosaic’s founder, has welcomed the appointment of Shabir Randeree CBE as Chairman to succeed Khawar Mann OBE. Mr Mann announced his intention to step down from the position of Chairman of Mosaic in the summer after having served in this role for the last two and a half years.
Shabir Randeree CBE is no stranger to Mosaic having been part of the Mosaic Board since his appointment in May 2009, and has been Vice-Chairman alongside Yasmin Waljee OBE since 2013. In his work on the Mosaic Board, Mr Randeree established the Mosaic Associates scheme, which now includes some 80 senior individuals supporting Mosaic’s cause. Mr Randeree also served until very recently as Chairman of the Mosaic Finance Committee, playing a key role in supporting the significant growth in Mosaic’s income.
Mr Randeree is a highly-respected business leader. He currently serves as Executive Chairman of DCD Group with over 25 years of experience in commercial real estate, venture capital, finance and banking. He is also the Deputy Chairman of Al Baraka Bank South Africa and a founding director of BankIslami. Mr Randeree was awarded his CBE in HM The Queen’s New Year’s Honours List 2013 in recognition of his services to both business and education, as well as for his philanthropic support of charitable causes including Mosaic. He brings years of experience as a founder trustee of EduTrust, a multi Academy sponsor, Chairman of Governors at The Westminster Academy School and a supporter of The Three Faiths Forum.
Khawar Mann OBE will remain on the Mosaic Board, of which he is a founder member. Earlier this year, Mr Mann accepted a significant new role as Managing Director of the healthcare team at Abraaj Capital, based in Dubai. The role involves extensive travel overseas and Mr Mann has reluctantly taken the decision that his role does not afford the time necessary for the Chairmanship. Mr Mann will take lead responsibility on the Board for Mosaic’s international work, including the forthcoming International Leadership Programme 2015.
Mr Mann said “I am delighted to pass the baton to Shabir. He has enormous passion and energy for Mosaic’s work and under his leadership I am sure Mosaic will continue to grow and reach out to those in our communities who need Mosaic the most.”
Jonathan Freeman, Managing Director of Mosaic, said “Mosaic owes an enormous debt of gratitude to Khawar for his leadership and support over the last seven years and, in particular, for his Chairmanship over the last two and a half years. Over the last three years, Mosaic has tripled the number of young people supported through its mentoring programmes and is increasingly recognised for its contribution to improving social mobility and fostering greater understanding between different communities. Notably, over this period Mosaic has secured quality accreditation of its programmes, won the Prime Minister’s Big Society Award and, most recently, the recognition of the impact of its programmes in the Department of Education’s statutory guidance to schools on careers guidance. These successes simply would not have been possible without Khawar’s leadership, encouragement and dedication to Mosaic’s cause. We are very glad that we will be able to count upon Khawar’s support moving forward.“
Jonathan continued “We are delighted that Shabir Randeree CBE has agreed to accept the role of Chairman to lead Mosaic on the next stage of its important journey. Shabir’s incredible support over the last five years has been hugely impressive and unstinting. The need for Mosaic’s work has, sadly, never been more important and we are therefore very grateful to be able to count upon Shabir’s leadership to deliver the ambitious aspirations which HRH The Prince of Wales has established for Mosaic. Shabir is a hugely positive role model for others who has ambitious plans for Mosaic’s development, promising a very exciting future for our work.”
Also passing on her thanks and congratulations was Mosaic’s Founder Chairman, HRH Princess Badiya bint El Hassan. She said: “I offer my congratulations to Khawar Mann on his achievements as Chairman of Mosaic and best wishes to Shabir Randeree as he takes on the role. Mosaic has already benefited hugely from Shabir’s time and impressive abilities. I have no doubt that Shabir will be an excellent Chairman and that, with the support of all those who also contribute so much, Mosaic will continue to flourish, inshaAllah.”
