Mosaic has been named Charity of the Year at the annual Birmingham Awards held in the city recently. The Birmingham Awards were established to celebrate the people and achievements of the UK’s second city and winners are decided by a public vote.
The West Midlands is one of Mosaic’s busiest regions and is host to all of the charity’s main activities: its Primary and Secondary mentoring programmes, the Enterprise Challenge and the Ex-Offender Programme.
Sponsored by Birmingham City University, the second of Birmingham’s prestigious awards was held on Saturday 10th September at the Vox Conference Arena. The Awards aim to bring the pride of Birmingham together under one roof to recognise the excellence and passion for the city, acknowledging and awarding those who strive to make Birmingham a prosperous home. The awards commemorated everything from small businesses to the best restaurants as well as adding categories such as Excellence in Media.
On winning, Dr. Haseena Lockhat, Chairman of Mosaic’s West Midlands Regional Leadership Group said: “This is a fantastic achievement and testament to the hard work of everyone connected with Mosaic in the West Midlands. It’s particularly satisfying that the award was voted for by the people of Birmingham and shows that Mosaic’s continuing efforts to give young people the very best start in life are recognised and appreciated.”
Mosaic’s Regional Manager, Becky Mitchell said: “To be voted Charity of the Year in Birmingham is a real honour and I couldn’t be happier to share the award with the dozens of volunteers that give up their time so generously to deliver our programmes across the region. I can confidently speak on behalf of everyone at the charity when I say that we’re proud to be making a difference in this great city.”
