On 28th November, Mosaic Yorkshire met at Bradford University to say thank you to its network. We said a big thank you to our mentors for their hard work and commitment to the young people we support, the Yorkshire Regional Leadership Group (RLG) for its continued support and leadership, to our network of school teachers for all they do and to all our supporters, for their dedication to Mosaic this academic year 2012/13.
The event started with Mosaic’s Regional Manager for Yorkshire, Nabila Ayub, updating the assembled guests about the exciting developments that have taken place during the year. Next, the Co-Chairs for RLG Yorkshire, Sarah Khan-Bashir and Zulfi Hussain gave moving addresses thanking all of Mosaic’s mentors and supporters from the region.
Sarah Khan-Bashir said after the address: “We really can’t thank our network of supporters enough for all they do. These networking events are a chance for us to say thank you in person and also a chance for the network to meet each other, talk and share experiences. We have also been lucky this evening to have a group of mentees with us from Bellevue Girls School – there’s nothing quite like hearing from those we actually support!”
An important focus of the evening was a call for more mentors for the Apax-Mosaic Enterprise Challenge Competition. Mosaic Board Member Tariq Shah addressed the event guests about the Apax-Mosaic Enterprise challenge and about the importance of mentoring and the need for even more mentors. Tariq commented: “We know that mentoring can change the future for a child. What the Apax-Mosaic Enterprise Challenge does is show these students, in a very real way, that through hard work, planning and having an idea, they can aspire and they can achieve. We need more mentors from the Yorkshire region to help us make a success of the 2013/2014 Challenge.”
The assembled guest then heard from students from Bellevue Girls School, who talked about their experiences as mentees and the impact that being a part of the Secondary School Programme has had on them personally and on their school.
The evening closed with a valuable networking opportunity, where mentors and supporters were able to share experiences and ideas and just enjoy each others company!
