On 11th September, our founder His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, met with His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al-Thani, the founder of the Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation, at a reception at Clarence House for the participants of our International Leadership Programme 2013.
The Prince and HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al-Thani witnessed the signing of an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see £250,000 a year donated to three of Mosaic’s Programmes: the Secondary School Mentoring Programme, the Ex-offender Programme and the INJAZ-Mosaic Enterprise Challenge in Jordan.
The MoU was signed by the Foundation’s General Manager Mr. Abdullatif Ali Al-Yafei and Mosaic’s National Director Jonathan Freeman. The signing came in the third day of Mosaic’s International Leadership Programme Summit and in the middle of a week-long event: Celebrating Enterprise, which marks the 21st anniversary of the support given by the Prince’s Charities to young people.
HE Sheikh Faisal Al-Thani said: “The Foundation is honoured to work with the Prince’s Charities and in particular to partner with these three projects which empower young people by giving them knowledge and skills to take control of their own futures and play a role in transforming their environment. We look forward to supporting HRH The Prince of Wales’s mission to help disadvantaged young people growing up in deprived communities and hearing their success stories in the months and years to come.”
The Foundation’s General Manager, Mr. Abdullatif Al-Yafei commented: “The new partnership with Mosaic is in line with the Foundation’s key mission to support the less advantaged and socially deprived by giving them “something that no one can take back”. The Foundation aspires to empower people in need with projects and opportunities in education and training, healthcare and social care, as well as culture and young enterprise.”
Al Faisal Without Borders is a charitable foundation established in 2011 by His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al-Thani. Based in Qatar, the Foundation promotes sustainable development and improved quality of life for people around the world. It is a philanthropic not-for-profit organisation which partners with governments, key charities and NGOs internationally to run social welfare development programmes in addition to providing humanitarian and aid relief.
The Foundation’s Executive Director, Mr. Ali Mare commented: “This partnership agreement and support for Mosaic reflects the vision of His Excellency Sheikh Faisal when he established the Foundation. Its aim is simply to help to improve the lives of the beneficiaries of its support. As a compassionate organization, the Foundation’s mission is to give those in need something that no one can take from them in today’s volatile world, notably their dignity, independence and a positive role in life.”
The Enterprise Business Challenge is a one-year programme run by Mosaic and INJAZ in Jordan, which aims to overcome the high levels of unemployment in the country by planting the seeds of entrepreneurship and business acumen with young people. Business mentors will work with 1,000 15-17 year-olds in 20 schools and youth institutions across all 12 districts of Jordan. The young people will be given support to develop their business ideas and then compete against each other to pitch ideas to a judging panel, with the aim of fostering an enthusiasm for business and an understanding of how to succeed.
