Year 9 girls from Central Foundation Girls School in London, were yesterday visited by their local MP, Rushanara Ali.
The girls have been participating in the Mosaic Mentoring Programme and went on a visit to Parliament a few weeks ago. During an informal discussion yesterday, they were able to ask Rushanara Ali about her role as their MP, and as part of the Shadow International Development team. She described what she enjoys about her role and what a normal day involves, the girls were interested to hear that Parliamentary business regularly continues until late at night.
The girls also asked about Rushanara’s experience of school – her sisters had been pupils at Central Foundation, and Rushanara was a pupil at a school nearby. Rushanara encouraged the girls to make the most of every opportunity to broaden their experiences. She also encouraged them to stay focused at school, so that they can give themselves the best possible range of opportunities in the future.
Central Foundation teacher Mr Davey said about the visit “It was fantastic for the students to chat with Rushanara, an inspirational figure from their local community who now has a direct influence on parliamentary policy. They really enjoyed having the freedom to ask her questions and receive honest answers and advice. A great opportunity!”
