A week left! Gulp!!
So how did that happen? The Prudential London-Surrey100 bike ride was a long-term goal, something away in the distance to aim for. And now it’s only a week away! That is scarily close. And I feel scarily unprepared!
The final month!
With less than a month to go until the big ride, the last two weeks’ training rides have been focused on hill climbs – and dealing with some serious heat!
Why am I doing this?!
The doubts creep in
The Ride100 organisers have now published the detailed route for the ride in August – and they’ve not pulled any punches! This is quite some ride; not just 100 miles, but 100 miles with some big hills! The middle 30 miles, in particular, look quite daunting, with four significant inclines, including the famous Box Hill climb but also the very nasty 14% Leith Hill. Ouch!
Competitive? Me?!
I was determined that the family Half Term holiday to the Isles of Scilly wasn’t going to disrupt my training regime too much, but I hadn’t quite expected to get quite so competitive during my short break from work…
There’s trouble in them there hills!
Finally, the three of us riding in the big ride managed to get out together this weekend. And we were heading for the hills!
Kings of Leon tickets
As part of our fundraising efforts for my ride in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100, Mosaic are inviting bids for two VIP tickets to see Kings of Leon in the Sky Suite at the O2 in London on Thursday 13 June 2013.
Peaking too early?
I was always going to have to get to Wiltshire this weekend to visit my mother on her birthday. But the cycling option was in doubt up to the last minute, as the prospect of an 85-mile ride this early in my training was daunting. However, due to a foolhardy competitive streak (my friend and fellow Ride100 cyclist had recently done the ride as his mother, coincidentally, also lives in Wiltshire), I decided to go for it. So, Sunday morning came around and I was on the road at 6.00am.
