The morning kicked off with personal leadership journeys shared by Mr. Stephen Howard & Mr. Khawar Mann. Both leaders who gave us valuable insights that went straight through my heart! Briefly the points were:
“We can’t be afraid of change. You may feel very secure in the pond that you are in, but if you never venture out of it, you will never know that there is such a thing as an ocean, a sea. Holding onto something that is good for you now, may be the very reason why you don’t have something better.”
The day started of with a panel discussion by 3 successful British Muslims (Aaqil Ahmed, Peter Sanders & Bushra Nair CBE) and their contributions or efforts to bring communities together. Listening to their experiences really reflects the whole spirit of MOSAIC which was to highlight the contributions of British Muslims in the UK.
Alhamdulillah we survived Day 1 (and the cold, wet London weather). We were priviliged to have Ms. Deema Bibi, CEO of Injaz and Baroness Warsi share their personal leadership journeys with the Mosaic delegates today.
It feels surreal; walking on the cobbled streets of picturesque Cambridge, with stately old buildings whose history seem to whisper from the walls, it feels unbelievable how far I’ve come. Not just in distance, but the experiences so far.
Well I appear to have fallen in love with Mosaic after finishing the 1st week of the program at the University of Greenwich.
Do you know how hard it is to work when you can smell samosas, pakoras and see a great big chocolate cake just crying out your name??
I’m feeling rather sad and at a loose end! Mentoring provides you with a purpose, something different from your everyday routine and gives you an enormous boost of enthusiasm, self worth and happiness. The happiness comes from knowing that you are passing along helpful tips and advice, which will hopefully be of use to the mentees in the present and future.
