Mosaic is working with delivery partner, LCBMIT in South London to mentor for the first time at Harris City Academy in Crystal Palace.
The programme of mentoring for 14 students in Year 11, which commences at the end of the month, was launched today by London College of Business Management and Information Technology (LCBMIT) CEO, Toaha Qureshi MBE, alongside the committed team of mentors they have recruited for the school. Students were joined by their parents, teachers and Head Teacher, Dr Hilary Macaulay to meet their mentors and understand the opportunities the programme has to offer.
Mosaic Head of Operations, Kim O’Reilly commented, “We are thrilled to be partnering with LCBMIT to work for the very first time in the Crystal Palace area. We met a really interesting set of students and engaging mentors today who I believe will work hard together to make the programme a real success. I cannot wait to hear about the results and I would like to thank Toaha, Saad and the team of mentors from LCBMIT for everything they are doing to support us and the school.”
Toaha set the tone of the mentoring programme to follow by sharing his own personal experiences of working hard to achieve success, and challenged the students to consider that Napolean Hill quote: “Whatever the mind can conceive, and believe, it can achieve”, and for those lucky enough to repeat the quote back to him, he offered scholarships at LCBMIT should they wish to attend!! The message was clear, that you can be successful if you work hard, and if you are successful you should continue to contribute to your local community for its good – if you do this, life will present opportunities and that you should take them!
LCBMIT CEO/Principal, Toaha Qureshi MBE, commented: “It was great to meet the students and their parents. Our roots are in the community and we are still here, and to date we have extended over £1,000,000 worth of scholarships to students. I founded the College because there was, and still is a great need for affordable accredited higher education. LCBMIT being a delivery partner for Mosaic enables us to fulfill our charitable goals and those of His Royal Highness, Prince Charles.”
Lead Mentor and Director of Academics and Corporate Affairs at LCBMIT, Saad Mahmood said: “The mentors have a breadth of experience in a range of sectors which the students will really benefit from. Philip Lingard has been a serial entrepreneur and now mentors small businesses and even opera singers, and we’ll pair those students with Philip that have musical interests. Umar Mahmood is extremely articulate and has excelled at a young age and is now a Director at a leading UK-based think tank, where he will be able to relate to the students easily. Abid Amjad is passionate about young people and is very eager to start on the programme having previously mentored sixth form students. He is an independent student recruitment consultant and entrepreneur. We are all excited.”
We very much look forward to hearing the students’ progress in the new year – watch this space.
